New Head Coach A Foxy Bronco

Denver BroncosJohn Fox became the 14th head coach in Denver Broncos history today. John Elway made the announcement via Twitter.

Elway also added “We couldn’t be more excited to have him lead the Denver Broncos.” And the Broncos starting quarterback Tim Tebow tweeted “Welcome to Denver Coach Fox! Can’t wait to get to work with you!!!”

Now there’s two John’s in Denver.  John the coach said he is thrilled “to coach a football team with such a proud tradition. The Broncos have a culture of winning, and I am excited to continue that legacy.”

The new Broncos coach is at work putting a staff together. It will be interesting to find out who the offensive and defensive coordinators will be.

Head coaching changes in Denver have been pretty rare for the last 28 years. There’s only been Dan Reeves, Wade Phillips, Mike Shanahan and Josh McDaniel’s in that time span.

Hopefully Fox’s tenure will last a lot longer than his predecessor and he can restore the Broncos to Superbowl champions.

Broncos Idol Like Search For Head Coach

Denver BroncosThe nation is well aware that the Denver Broncos are searching for their next head coach after firing Josh McDaniel’s during a tumultous season. John Elway joined Twitter shortly after becoming the Broncos new Vice President of Football Operations and quickly went to work interviewing head coaching candidates.

Eric Studesville, the current Broncos Interim Head Coach, interviewed for the position. So has Perry Fewell, Rick Dennison, Dirk Koetter and John Fox.

Whether more candidates will be considered or if that completes the list will be known as soon as John Elway tweets it.

Out of the candidates so far I’m not sure which one is best for Denver. That’s for the brass ring to decide. I’d throw my vote in for Dennison. If he’s ready, he’s ready. Sometimes you have to give a guy a shot to find out.

John Fox brings the most NFL head coaching experience out of the candidates but that also means he might command a higher salary, which is an issue for the Broncos right now because they are paying two former coaches as well.

The fans in Denver don’t exactly seem thrilled with any of the choices. It’s possible that because Jim Harbaugh was snatched up immediately by the Niner’s, then Ron Rivera went to the Panthers, the Broncos fans feel like the best coach is getting away. Don’t be so sure about that.

Fox has the most NFL head coaching experience so let’s take his word for it when he says “there’s a lot of variables that I think it’s important that everyody is on the same page.”

It’s just possible that Harbaugh, Rivera, Mularkey and Williams were not good fits to begin with so keep your head up Bronco fans, the Denver Broncos Idol like search for a head coach will continue until they get their man.

Tebow Answers Big Questions in Broncos Loss

Tim Tebow

Tebow after scoring a 40 yard TD

Should the Broncos draft a quarterback like Andrew Luck in the 2011 NFL draft? Now that we’ve got to see whether or not Tim Tebow could be a full time QB in the league I’d say the answer is a resounding no.

Even without seeing Tebow get his first NFL start my answer would have been no. The Broncos need help on defense, that’s no secret.

They have #1 draft picks in Tebow, Knowshon Moreno, Ryan Clady and Demaryius Thomas all offensive players.

It’s time to focus on that defense and getting it back to Orange Crush status. Raiders full back Marcel Reese scored a little too easily on a 73 yard catch n run that put the Raiders up 30-20  and helped seal the game for Oakland (pictured below).

Raiders FB Marcel Reese 73 yard TD

The Broncos had a chance to beat the Raiders and I know I’m not alone saying they got out coached by the Raiders in the 2nd half. The Broncos once again failed to make adjustments and probably played a little too cautious with Tebow by not letting him throw more.

Tebow went 8 for 16 passing for 138 yards with one 33 yard TD to Brandon Lloyd and a would be touchdown dropped by Lance Ball in the endzone.

On the ground Tebow rushed for 78 yards on 8 carries including a 40 yard touchdown run the longest by any Broncos quarterback in history. That’s 9.8 yards per carry folks. And Tebow became the third player in NFl history to throw a TD pass at least 30 yards and run for a score of at least 40 yards in the same game.

We know Tim Tebow can play. Now let’s get him some help.

To Play Or Not To Play Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow

In late November of 2006, then Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahn benched starting quarterback Jake Plummer in leiu of rookie Jay Cutler.

Plummer says it’s because Mike Shanahan is still searching for the next John Elway, but Plummer’s seemingly early retirement from the league following that season says Shanahan may have noticed Plummer was ready to hang it up and went with his young gun in Cutler.

Flash forward to 2010 – enter Tim Tebow.

New head coach Josh McDaniel’s takes over – trades Jay Cutler for Kyle Orton – acquires Chris Simms, Brady Quinn, wants Matt Cassell and wheels n deals to draft Tim Tebow in the 1st round.

Tebow plays, sparingly. He played well enough in his spare time duties against Kansas City to earn AFC rookie of the week honors.

So why not play Tebow more? That’s the 15 million dollar question right now in Denver.

There’s plenty of speculation. It’s because Kyle Orton is making a pro-bowl run and for 11 games was on pace to break the Broncos single season passing record for yards.

Despite Orton’s efforts the Broncos are 3-10 and when you have a two-time National champion, Heisman trophy winning 1st round draft pick rearing to shoot out of the gate…

You play Tebow less and Orton more? That’s currently what the Denver Broncos are doing.

But rumor also has it that Tim Tebow will probably start, or play significantly more in the Broncos home game against the Houston Texans…we’ll see!

How To Destroy An NFL Franchise

“How to destroy an NFL franchise in two years, Josh McDaniel’s could write the book”

Red flagDo you see the above quote? Did you know it was spoken weeks ago by a hall of fame defensive back? That’s right. Those are words strait from the mouth of Rod Woodson.

Woodson doesn’t believe in Josh McDaniel’s as an NFL head coach, Pat Bowlen does.

Bowlen has never played in the NFL, Rod Woodson has.

The more you noodle around with the entire Josh McDaniel’s fiasco the more you walk off scratching your head asking why you tried to understand the 2nd year NFL head coach in the first place.

Bring up the words Peyton Hillis and some Broncos fans will go ballistic because McDaniel’s traded away the popular running back and draft picks for Brady Quinn. There’s a head scratcher for you.

Remember McJaygate? Another head scrather by McDaniel’s who traded away the Broncos pro-bowl quarterback for Kyle Orton and draft picks.

The red flags were waving everywhere but only a few keen Broncos fans saw them waving. Pat Bowlen didn’t. Joe Ellis didn’t. But some good ol’ Denver folks who bleed orange and blue did.

There’s only one NFL head coach in history known for running talented players and experienced NFL coaches out the door like it’s nobodies business. His name is Josh McDaniel’s.

Some could say Mike Nolan left Denver because Miami is a more attractive job, but the real reason is sitting at his desk somewhere in Dove Valley wondering how in the world he lost the last 17 out of 22 games.

You see how you can go bald quickly trying to analyze the mind of Josh McDaniel’s? He wanted to move to a power running scheme but then traded away his best power runner for a backup QB?

Two more mind boggling words: Alphonso Smith. If you don’t know that story look it up in the what not to do in the NFL draft book.

Tim Tebow is a head scratcher for opposite reasons. He has limited playing time but has scored 4 TD’s and appears to be automatic in the red zone. But McDaniels’ refuses to give him more playing time.

Last year McDaniel’s refused to give Peyton Hillis more playing time then traded him away.

There’s no Broncos flags waving in Denver, just red ones. Unfortunately the people that can’t see them are color blind or…who knows anymore. What I do know is the Broncos are 3-9, let their record speak for itself.
