The Dynamic Duo

Denver BroncosNo, it’s not Batman and Robin and sorry children it’s not Phineas and Ferb either. The dynamic duo we’re talking about is Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil and rookie linebacker Von Miller.

Von Miller and Elvis DumervilThe two pass rushing specialists have a combined 16 sacks so far this season.

Von Miller was the Broncos highest drafted player in club history at #2 overall (they traded for John Elway who was selected #1 overall by the Baltimore Colts).

If Miller continues doing what he’s doing he is likely to become the NFL’s defensive rookie of the year. Elvis Dumvervil has been battling the injury bug since 2010 when he missed the entire season. He appears to be healthy now and the proof is his 5.5 sacks have all come in the last four games.

Dennis Allen, the Broncos defensive coordinator, has served under head coaches Wade Phiilips (Dallas), Sean Payton (New Orleans) and has done a good job of improving Denver’s defense this season. The Broncos defense is ranked #18 overall but that’s after a shaky start in the beginning of the season going 1-4.

Champ Bailey is having a quietly stellar season. Quiet because teams are not daring to throw to his side of the field. Stellar because he’s mostly been holding opposing team’s #1 reciever’s in check. Bailey has 2 interceptions this season which both came against Oakland when Carson Palmer dared to throw his way.

There’s much ado about Kyle Orton going to the Kansas City Chiefs since they will be playing the Broncos on January 1, the last game of the regular season. But if you’re Kyle Orton do you want to be playing against this Broncos defense and face the dynamic duo pass rush of Elvis Dumervil and Von Miller? I wouldn’t.
