Mayweather Pacquiao – The Fight Is On

On May 2nd the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. will step into the ring against what many have dubbed the most dangerous opponent he has ever faced in Manny Pacquiao.

The road to this fight has been long but worth the wait. The two fighters are nearing the end of their careers but they are still two of the best pound-for-pound boxers on the planet.

This fight is one of the biggest the boxing world has put together in a long time. The drama and hype surrounding it is not a show, it’s real. Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, has thrown the first blows aimed at Floyd’s trainer and father, Floyd Mayweather Sr. saying “I’ve watched (Floyd Sr.) in the corner,” Roach told the Los Angeles Times. “He stutters, has trouble staying calm and can’t get words out,” and he’s thrown jabs at Floyd Jr. as well.

Mayweather, not one to shy away from confrontation or verbal jabs himself, has stayed mostly quiet regarding Pacquiao and co. He’s just been focused on training. In Rocky style fashion he’s even been chopping a lot of wood!

The fight itself is a classic match-up pitting boxer (Maweather) vs. puncher (Pacquiao). Pacquiao, however, is no ordinary puncher, he has pretty good boxing skills as well. Manny Pacquiao has a rare combination of power and speed with good footwork to boot. This is what makes the fight so interesting, it can go either way.

Mayweather on the other hand is known for his un-paralleled defensive skills. Floyd’s last knockout victory was in 2011 against Victor Ortiz, a controversial one at that. His other most recent knockout was against Ricky Hatton in 2007 which was a masterful performance. However, Floyd would get upstaged when Hatton fought Manny Pacquiao and was knocked stone cold in what is widely considered one of Pacquiao’s best fights.

The outcome of the fight may not be certain but you can bet this is going to be one fight you don’t want to miss!
