Peyton’s Place – The Record Books

Peyton's Place - the record books
Broncos QB Peyton Manning

It only took Peyton Manning 15 games this year to break the all-time NFL record for most passing TD’s in a single season with 51. He can add to that total this Sunday against the Oakland Raiders, although, chances are he might not play the entire game with the AFC West title already in the bag.

Peyton only needs a paltry 265 yards to break Drew Brees’s single season record for passing yards. Manning can throw for that in his sleep, he’s averaging 347 yards per game.

A season like this doesn’t come around very often despite Peyton saying that “Tom (Brady) could break the record next year.”

Manning has been playing so good since returning from multiple neck surgeries that nobody would blame opposing teams for demanding a DNA check on him to verify that he’s human. If the Raiders didn’t show up to play the Broncos this Sunday nobody would blame them either.

Peyton’s place in history is secure, he is arguably the greatest NFL quarterback to ever play the game, one more Superbowl trophy and it will be hard to argue that he isn’t the greatest, period.

Pat Bowlen only needed four words when he held up the Denver Broncos first Lombardi trophy over a decade ago, “This one’s for John.” Next it could be John Elway holding up the iconic silver football proclaiming, “This one’s for Peyton.”

When it comes to quarterbacking, the NFL the record books all but belong to Peyton. Only Brett Favre has thrown for more career yards and touchdowns but #4 played forever, literally.

The only record that doesn’t look good for #18 is his playoff record (9-11), which is safe to assume Peyton would like to turn into a winning record by February. If all goes as planned for the Broncos they will become Superbowl champions and Peyton’s playoff record will finally be positive.
