I had the most delicious Chicago-style Dog today! Can you believe it was my first? Sure I like my fair share of toppings, onions, mustard, ketchup, relish (dill only thankyouverymuch), maybe the occasional jalepeno. But a Chicago dog?
Wiki says: A Chicago-style hot dog, or Chicago Dog, is a steamed or water-simmered all-beef frankfurter on a poppy seed bun, originating from the city of Chicago, Illinois. The hot dog is topped with yellow mustard; chopped white onions; bright green sweet pickle relish; a dill pickle spear; tomato slices or wedges; pickled sport peppers; and a dash of celery salt. The complete assembly of a Chicago hot dog is said to be “dragged through the garden” due to the many toppings. (Chicago-style Hot Dog – Wiki)
We headed to Mile High Vienna Stand on a hot August afternoon looking to quench that summertime craving of hot dogs and fries.
Mine was packed with flavor, it was delicious. The others had plain janes, but still satisfying, ketchup only and mustard only. The fries were crisp and cooked to perfection.
Atmosphere is sportsy and fun. Located just 2 blocks from Coors Field it is a game day favorite!
Did you know you can bring Hot Dog and Drink packs from Mile High Vienna into Coors Field!? That is way cool in our books!
What about this idea? Former Chicago residents are welcomed to “pin” their former place on a huge Chicago map – fun!
Next time we are all going for an Italian Beef Sandwich, I can almost feel it melting in my mouth.
Mile High Vienna is located at 1312 21st Street, on 21st between Market and Larimer.
They have a second location at 3rd and Santa Fe coming soon.
What a cool idea with the Chicago map!
