Chargers End Broncos Season

The dreaded thing happened, the Broncos got blown-out again by the Chargers from San Diego.

Kyle Orton might keep his job as the starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos but the reality is he is a #2 quarterback that has been posing as a starter.

Josh McDaniel’s traded for Orton, groomed Orton, built the offense around Orton’s capabilities and the result is…5-15 in the last 20 games.

Kyle Orton is not starting quarterback material in the NFL. This might shock some Broncos fans because they’ve heard the media make muchado about Orton. Facts are facts though.

Orton is like Bubby Brister only less exciting.

It’s time to put Orton back where he belongs on the bench. It’s time to start Tim Tebow and get him some full time game experience. It’s time to see a change for the better in Bronco land.

I don’t know what goes on behind the scenes at Dove Valley. I wish I did though. There’s a Joe Ellis character, who I think was a lawyer, and is making major personnel decisions including the hiring of Josh McDaniel’s.

I like Josh and want to see him succeed in Denver but I’m also a realist. It’s not happening.

Mike Shanahan’s Broncos might have tail spinned in his final season but there was still hope they could win. They appeared to be a player or two away from turning into a real contender. Now it’s difficult to spot the Broncos weak spots because they seem weak all around.

It’s time for a change in Denver, only time will tell what Pat, Josh n Joe might do.

Denver Broncos: What Happened?

Denver BroncosAbout this time last year the Denver Broncos held a 6-2 record and nobody had a clue they would only add two more victories last year and start off 2-6 this year.

It hurts just thinking about it let alone having to write it down. What happened to the Broncos that started 6-0 a year ago?

We could bring up losing Brandon Marshall and Tony Sheffler but they were both here during the initial skid. So was Peyton Hillis although he was never really given a chance last year.

Throw losing Jay Cutler in there too, after all he did have his best year the year before Denver traded him posting 4,526 yards and 25 TD’s.

Then there’s the defense(less). The Denver Broncos defense that can play good enough to compete with the best teams in the league yet get blown out by the worst. That Defense.

Denver has lost good coaches too but every team goes through that cycle. We can go on and on with this so let’s just get to it.

What we have to do is look at the big picture and break it down. When that’s all said and done there is only one possible answer. It’s so simple, yet complex and it’s not what a lot of people want to hear.

Breaking the Broncos down into three era’s is simple, there’s BJE, JEe and PJE. Before John Elway, John Elway era and Post John Elway.

Only two of the era’s went to Superbowls. The Denver Broncos have played in six Superbowls total and John Elway started in five of them. So one Superbowl appearance BJE and five JEe. But in the PJE era the Broncos have only made it as far as the AFC championship game once and they lost hands down.

Simple, see. The Denver Broncos have not won a Superbowl without John Elway so the question is how long until they do?

Broncos Preparing For London

Denver BroncosHow do you get over a loss as painful as the one the Broncos got handed by the Raiders last Sunday? Easy. There’s only one way.

Just win baby! If you’re only as good as your last game, well, let’s not go there.

The Broncos must beat the 49′ers and there couldn’t be a better time or a better team to face.

The stage: London. The opponent: San Fransisco. This game isn’t just national, it’s International and I’ll say it again, the Broncos must win.

Sometimes in a close loss the loser will take something from it, learn from it and become better for it. The Broncos don’t have that same luxury.

But they do have this: key defensive players like Brian Dawkins and Andre Goodman should be returning from injury. The Broncos running game can build on what they were able to do with Knowshon back in the lineup.

The 49′ers will be starting Troy Smith at quarterback. That should be good news for the Broncos because Smith hasn’t played much in the NFL. He appeared in some games here and there for the Ravens but hasn’t really played much since the 07′ season.

In the past few seasons the Broncos have suffered major blow-out losses at the end of the season, to end their season.

This time, they have time to overcome the horrendous, we don’t speak about that game, loss to the you know who’s.

Broncos Still Poised To Win The West

Denver BroncosHave you looked at the Broncos remaining schedule? For starters there are six division games left so the AFC west is definitely wide open right now. The non-division games left? How about the 49′ers, Rams, Cardinals and Texans. Not too bad eh?

There is hope for the orange and blue. It’s not just the remaining opponents either. It’s the Broncos themselves who have the ability to compete with good teams.

Mistakes have been costly and must be minimized down the road. Injuries have kicked
down the door of Dove Valley but that can’t stop the Broncos from winning 8 of their next 10 games.

Or more.

It was the Duke of Denver that said “the game is never over til’ the clock says zero zero.” Sage advice from the guy who probably forgot more about comebacks than most people will ever know.

There’s one more element that can help the Denver Broncos. You. Stay positive. Did you hear the crowd at INVESCO Field the other night? It was reminicent of the old Mile High Stadium and some Jets players took note.

Guess what? They don’t really want to come back and play here. The Broncos might get the chance to go beat them in New York err Jersey. Either way, the Broncos are one win streak away from turning this season around.

But the Broncos are 2-4, they have trouble scoring, can they really turn this around you ask?

“Every adverse situation carries with it an equal or greater benefit” Napolean Hill. You hear NFL players say all the time “we just have to look forward to next week,” it’s true.

The Raiders are up next so even Mike Shanahan is pulling for the Broncos this week.

Broncos Hair Pulling Experience

Share

Denver BroncosI knew full well that the Denver Broncos have never won in Baltimore. But it gets worse. The Broncos typically get destroyed in Baltimore and it happened again yesterday as the Ravens handed the Broncos a 31-17 defeat.

Kyle Orton was his usual self posting over 300 yards and 2 TD’s. Knowshon Moreno was a no-show since he’s still nursing a hamstring injury. The rest, as they say, is history.

Back in the late 90′s the Broncos bread-n-butter play was the old half back toss left, to Terrell Davis of course, and it always worked like a charm.

The new bread-n-butter play is the short bubble screen and it works…sometimes.

It didn’t work against the Ravens, unfortunately. So what are we to make of this 2-3 Broncos team? Can they turn this around or will they continue to give the fans a hair pulling experience watching them play?

Tale of Two Running Backs

Share

Maurice Jones-Drew is the Jacksonville Jaguars star running back in his 5th season out of UCLA. Knowshon Moreno is the Denver Broncos second year running back out of Georgia. Both backs have been nursing injuries. Both are expected to play in the regular season opener on September 12th.

Jones-Drew is expected to come out of the gate full-throttle whereas Moreno is still a question mark. Jones-Drew was held out more as a formality – Moreno has been nursing a serious hamstring injury.

Some questions will be answered when the Broncos and Jaquars face each other for the NFL regular season opener. One of them will be the tale of the two running backs, Maurice Jones-Drew and Knowshon Moreno, and just how healthy they are.
